Green Policies
L&E promotes green policies by supporting the environmental movement with strategic media outreach, government relations, and PR initiatives.
Promoting Green Policies for the Environmental Movement
As the environmental movement is faced with new opportunities and challenges, L&E has developed a new professional position to provide infrastructural support. In October 2021, a new coordinating position to promote green policies was filled at L&E to promote environmental causes for the movement. This position was developed following an ongoing need of spokesmanship/media outreach and government relations capacities for the local movement.
The promotion of green policies involves identifying core issues for promoting such policies, with a focus on the Low Carbon Economy, including the Climate Act, Green Employment and a Just Transition and sustainable food practices, agriculture, and food security. This effort includes training for organizations, civil advocacy based on the infrastructure established by the Green Policies forum of the Climate Change Coalition, and the production of position papers to provide politicians with updated information on environmental causes, including those mentioned above, and additional causes chosen by the steering committee.
PR and Traditional Media: To maximize the impact of our Government Relations work, L&E must lead PR initiatives to support advocacy efforts. The promotion of green policies requires PR and media support, as campaigns that lead to significant pressure on the government affect policy-making. In April 2024, a joint communications consultant joined L&A. The Consultant's role is to enhance the visibility and engagement of L&A on social networks, collaborate with journalists covering L&A events, and liaise with the President's Spokesperson's Office.
